Can selected data be exported to csv, xls, or similar?

I'd like users to be able to open exported data in an Excel friendly format - csv, xls, xlsx, etc. Using TableSelect_analysis or CopyRows_management, data can't be exported in any of those formats, as far as I can tell. CopyRows will accept them as input, but not output. Is there any method to do so? Xls is probably a long shot, but csv would be fine. When I name an output file with a csv extension, no error is thrown, but the file isn't created either.

Currently exporting as dbf, which users can open in Excel, but they have to open it manually, changing the file type in the Open dialog box.
