Python Help Window in ArcMap

Hello

I am learning Python scripting in the Python window in ArcMap 10.2 and would like to be able to use the help window to prompt me for input values however my window always stays blank. I'm also not getting the list of methods and properties when I type in a function.

Is there something I am doing wrong here?
