Custom Programmed Point Map Marker Symbology

Hi there,

I have a point layer with an underlying table. This table has a field in it which matches the file names of my folder with a large number of png files (one file per point). I'd like to program a python script which matches each point's "field A" to its png file, but I don't know where to start. I understand I could use the symbology menu to match them up one at a time, but that would take days.

Any help or tips on getting this script started would be much appreciated. It should be extremely simple...
